Havin’ a ‘Hing

Glasgow is a city of tenements and high rises, and during lockdown many people, particularly those who were shielding, were confined to their flats. Emma Harvey and Serena Milesi responded to this issue with ‘Havin’ A ‘Hing’, a community noticeboard proposed for each block of flats which reached out to offer a supporting hand through messages of love, hope and humour.

The project used the design of tenement closes and Glaswegian slang as design inspiration and highlighted how this simple act of solidarity could boost mental health and wellbeing, connect people across generations together and offer a hand of support to those most vulnerable in the pandemic.

This project was submitted as part of the After the Pandemic Summer School initiative.
